The Stone Zoo in Stoneham, MA is one of two zoos operated by Zoo New England -- the other being the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston.

Once known as the Middlesex Fells Zoo, the Stone Zoo was founded in 1905. For generations it was the typical zoo of the early 20th century -- small cement enclosures that were concrete dungeons for the animals.

Today, the Stone Zoo is completely transformed. Their exhibits are much more spacious and natural these days and there is evidence of enrichment programs for the animals everywhere you look. Additionally, they have many species survival programs in place making the Stone Zoo a huge asset to wildlife. If you haven't been to the Stone Zoo in the last 5 years, you haven't seen the Stone Zoo.

During the Christmas Holiday the Stone Zoo plays host to ZooLights -- more than a half-million twinkling lights displayed all across the zoo. It's a magical event, and it helps support the wonderful efforts of Zoo New England.
